Life After The Uniform

4 Tips for Settling In

Last night, I finally found my new favourite restaurant! I’m so happy. One of the toughest parts of moving is finding all of your new favourites again … and for me, favourite restaurants are key to my happiness. But then again, so are grocery stores, book stores, parks and walking trails …

So what are the best ways to find the best your new city has to offer?

  1. It’s always a good idea to stop by the MFRC … they will have an information pack filled with lots of local stuff. This is also a great place to ask for referrals, because the staff will have lived in the area for some time, and will be able to offer lots of advice.
  2. Go to the website for your city or town. You’ll find details on walking trails, pet licensing, parks, recreation, waste disposal and other civic information.
  3. Ask friends who have lived there before you … this is where Facebook comes in super-handy (especially before you’ve actually gotten there)! Just post the question … people love to offer advice!
  4. Do your online research. Site like TripAdvisor.ca are great for getting information on good restaurants. Google is your friend when you are new in town!

You never really feel at home in a new place until you have your “favourites” figured out … what are your tips for finding your favourites?
