CAF Program To Foster Safe Workspace for People of the 2SLGBTQI+ Community

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) program fostering a safe workspace for people of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, Positive Space, is undergoing significant updates.

Phase one of the updates began in October 2022, and phase two was expected to launch in winter 2023.

Phase one included launching online resources to welcome Defence Team (DT) members as ambassadors and facilitators.

“To demonstrate that the DT is committed to strengthening a respectful and inclusive workplace on Oct. 31, 2022, the program implemented phase one by launching a global online booking tool that increased accessibility and eased the registration process for those interested in becoming positive space ambassadors and facilitators,” stated CANFORGEN 63/23 announcing updates to Positive Space.

Five Years Making a Difference

The Positive Space Program was launched in 2018.

“Positive Space, is a Defence Team Program that aims to foster a positive and safe working environment, generate awareness of 2SLGBTQI+ (Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and additional sexually and gender diverse identities) topics and communities and assist members of the DT seeking information and support,” writes the CAF.

However, since its launch, there has been one online update to the national program. In addition, with the recent launch of the first federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan, updates are being made within the CAF.

Besides the online tool launched in the fall of 2022, the program also launched its updated internal and eternal website, Office 365 Sharepoint, MS Teams PS channel and branding guide.

Training materials have been revised, and new courses will be launched in winter 2023 as part of phase two of the update.

Additionally, in partnership with CANEX, the Positive Space Kit Shop will be available online and in select Canex stores from March 31, 2023.
