Berchtesgaden, Germany
An autumn postcard scene from Germany. This week’s #SightSeeingSunday image captures the magic of daybreak above Berchtesgaden in southeastern Bavaria. Draped in vibrant fall colours, the scene marks the gateway to Berchtesgaden National Park. At its heart rests the Maria Gern Church, a Baroque treasure built between 1708 and 1710. The church’s interior features delicate stucco by Salzburg artisan Joseph Schmidt and frescoes by Christoph Lehrl of Höglwörth. Rising majestically behind Maria Gern is Watzmann, Germany’s third-highest mountain.

Our #SightSeeingSunday image of the week takes us to Morant’s Curve in Banff National Park, Alberta, one of Canada’s most iconic rail photography locations. Named after Canadian Pacific Railway photographer Nicholas Morant, this breathtaking spot offers panoramic views of the Bow River as trains wind gracefully through the majestic Rocky Mountains. Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland
A cotton candy sky blankets the famous Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall in our #SightSeeingSunday image of the week. Shot as the summer sun sets, Kirkjufellsfoss is a picturesque waterfall located near the base of the iconic Kirkjufell mountain in Iceland. Comprised of three small cascading falls, Kirkjufellsfoss is fed by glacial waters and offers a stunning contrast to the sharply peaked mountain that rises dramatically behind it. The combination of flowing water and striking geology makes it one of the most photographed spots in Iceland, especially under the glow of the midnight sun or the shimmering northern lights. The falls are located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in western Iceland.

Canada Day is this week, and to celebrate our #SightSeeingSunday features Moraine Lake in Alberta! Simply stunning at daybreak, as the sun rises and gently kisses the mountain tops of the Valley of the Ten Peaks, the glacier-fed turquoise-coloured Moraine Lake mirrors the peaks. Happy Canada Day!
Valletta, Malta
A stunning sunset view of the renowned city of Valletta, Malta, is spotlighted in our #SightSeeingSunday image this week. A southern European island country in the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its endless sunny days and stunning waters, Malta is a popular tourist destination. It has also served as the set for movies such as Gladiator, Troy, and Game of Thrones.
Annecy, France
Tourists soak in the breathtaking views of the Canal of Annecy in our #SightSeeingSunday image of the week. Dubbed by many as the “Venice of the Alps,” Annecy, France, is known for its breathtaking mountain views, romantic canals, and translucent lake. York, England
A cobbled winding street in the city centre of York, England, is front and centre in our #SightSeeingSunday image. Shot at dusk, this historic narrow street lined with preserved medieval buildings has existed since the 14th century. Known as Shambles, the street is one of York’s most famous landmarks and one of the best-preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe. The street is believed to have inspired Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter series movie adaptation. In the late 1800s, the street was known as The Great Flesh Shambles, as it was home to 31 butcher shops. Fleshammels, an Anglo-Saxon word, means flesh shelves, where the butchers displayed their meat. Today, the street features cafés, boutiques, and gift shops.

Mallorca, Spain
The heavens and earth meet in this otherworldly #SightSeeingSunday image of the week. Under the Milky Way, an illuminated road leads to the Far de Formentor lighthouse on the island of Mallorca, Spain. Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands. The islands were first colonized by humans around 2500–2300 BC. Mallorca is the seventh largest island in the Mediterranean, making it a popular tourist destination.

Drumheller, Alberta
Happy (pre) Canada Day! This week’s #SightSeeingSunday features hoodoos in Drumheller, Alberta. These unique formations, also known as tent rocks, fairy chimneys or earth pyramids, are more than just a picturesque sight. Illuminated in the sun under the big, bright, blue Alberta sky, the hoodoos in Drumheller were deposited between 70 and 75 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. Composed of clay and sand, the hoodoos symbolize the Canadian Badlands. Hoodoos are found worldwide, typically in desert-like, dry, hot areas. However, Drumheller can be cold in the winter.

The Southern Alps in New Zealand vies for a top spot as one of the beautiful sunset scenes in our #SightSeeingSunday photo of the week. Pictured here is a sunset just over the bend of the Clutha River, with the majestic peaks of the Southern Alps gracing the horizon. The Clutha River, New Zealand’s second-longest river, stretches 338 km, with the Southern Alps spanning approximately 500 km from northeast to southwest in this Pacific island country.

Zaandam, Netherlands
Nothing feels more like spring than colourful fields of exquisite tulips. And that’s why the Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands is our #SightSeeingSunday image of the week. Known for both its tulips and windmills, the Zaanse Schans neighbourhood is located in the town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Pictured here is one of the historic windmills relocated to this area to recreate the look of an 18th-century village.
