Department of National Defence Modernizes Travel Management System
In an effort to modernize its travel management systems, the Department of National Defence (DND) will transition to AMEX Global Business Travel (GBT) Neo, replacing the existing AMEX online booking tool (OBT), according to a new military message.
“DND is scheduled to migrate from May 29–June 3, 2025, as the last Government of Canada (GC) department,” reads Canadian Forces General Message (CANFORGEN) 047/25.
Users were urged to prepare for the change by updating their profiles in advance of the switchover.
“Review and update your travel profile as soon as possible, as required, and record important details such as your traveller identification number and frequent traveller loyalty account information as a precaution,” states the memo.

Contract Extended
The upgrade comes as part of a two-year contract extension with AMEX GBT, signalling continued collaboration between federal departments and the travel service provider.
The new platform, described as a “GC customized version of Neo,” has been developed in coordination with the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS), Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Shared Travel Services, and AMEX GBT, according to the CANFORGEN.
The transition “adheres to all GC policies and regulations just like the current AMEX OBT system,” reads the CANFORGEN.
The move is the final step in a government-wide shift to the new platform.
“Once all GC departments are transitioned to AMEX GBT Neo, the old platform will be sunset,” reads the CANFORGEN.

Taking Proactive Steps
The military encouraged personnel to take proactive steps to ensure their travel needs are uninterrupted during the upgrade. For members needing support or clarification, DND designated a contact point through the Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO).
