CAF Introduces Special Operations Forces Officer

A new General Service Officer in the form of a Special Operations Forces Officer has been created by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), making it the first time an officer occupation will belong to the Canadian Special Operations Forces Branch.

Applications are currently being accepted from all CAF officers for this role.

“A Special Operations Officer is a highly skilled and versatile military professional who leads and executes specialized missions in challenging and dynamic environments.

“They possess exceptional leadership, tactical, and strategic skills and are capable of operating independently or as part of a larger team to deliver CAF operational effects, domestically or internationally in the defence of Canada,” states CANFORGEN 084/23, which announced the position.

The occupation will be in implementation from June 1, 2023.

A Specialized Occupation

A CAF officer selected for this position will be trained in special warfare, direct action, special reconnaissance, and precision strike operations.

A Special Operations Forces Operation is a career field occupation that allows for individual specialization as either a Special Operations Assaulter Officer, Special Forces Operator Officer, and Special Operations Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Officer.

Requirements

All those CAF members looking to apply for this position must have a medical category of SOA SF OP and SO CBRN.

Additionally, for Terms of Service, “The following sequence of a Variable Initial engagement (VIE) Continuing Engagements (CE) and Intermediate Engagement (IE) will be established for SOF O: VIE 7 CE 5 CE 5 IE 25.”
