The Royal Canadian Air Force Band to perform with Honorary Colonel Loreena McKennitt

The Royal Canadian Air Force Band is teaming up once again with the talented Celtic artist Loreena McKennitt to get Manitobans in the festive spirit with their annual holiday concert.

“The Royal Canadian Air Force annual holiday concert is back to spread some holiday cheer in Winnipeg! This year, the band will be joined once again by Manitoba native and local treasure Loreena McKennitt,” states the events Facebook page.

Titled “Tracking Santa Around the Globe” this year, the concert, which will take place at Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg, will benefit United Way Winnipeg. The concert is expected to feature family-friendly holiday songs along with a special rendering of The Grinch by “The Thomas Edison of entertainers,” Al Simmons.

This isn’t the first time McKennitt and the RCAF Band are performing together for the annual holiday concert. Last year McKennitt both performed with the band and also sang some solo tracks. As honorary colonel of the RCAF, McKennitt has had several opportunities to perform with the band at RCAF events like the Battle of Britain ceremony in Ottawa last year.

“She was immediately enthusiastic about it… she was fantastic, very very supportive of the RCAF in general and she knew it was a long past time that she and I got together in a musical aspect for this concert,” said RCAF Band Commanding Officer, John Fullerton after last year’s concert.

The RCAF Band was established in the 1940s and is made of 35 professional musicians who perform across North America. The band’s mission is the provide musical support to the Canadian Armed Forces, all levels of government and to public functions.

The concert will begin at 19:00 CST. To purchase tickets click here or call Ticketmaster at 1-855-985-5000.
