Military Judge finds Master Warrant Officer guilty of behaving in a disgraceful manner

Master Warrant Officer Alan Chapman has been reduced to the rank of warrant officer after pleading guilty to one charge at a standing court martial held in Gatineau, Quebec on Monday, Nov. 28.

The charges laid against Chapman were related to an act of sexual misconduct against a female member of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in Cyprus in 2010.

At Monday’s court-martial, the military judge found Chapman guilty of one charge of having behaved in a disgraceful manner under section 93 of the National Defence Act. Out of the two charges that were laid against Chapman by the Director of Military Prosecutions on Dec. 3, 2015, the military judge, Commander Martin Pelletier, stayed one charge of sexual assault under section 130 of the National Defence Act (section 271 Criminal Code of Canada).

Along with a reduction in rank, Pelletier handed Chapman a fine of $2,500.

“The CAF takes all allegations of any form of sexual misconduct seriously and is committed to dealing with them as quickly as possible,” stated a CAF/ Department of National Defence press release.
