Celebrating Canada Day across the country

This year Canada turns 151 and with the day quickly approaching if you haven’t made plans yet, we have compiled a list of significant events happening across the country to celebrate Canada’s big day, including some pretty epic fireworks displays.

Petawawa has a day planned for your entire family over at Centennial Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The day is set to begin with raising the flag, formal ceremonies, the singing of O Canada, and a Colour Party presentation. Afterward, there will be a barbecue and cake cutting.

Throughout the day there will be balloon twisting, laser tag, a petting zoo, rock climbing, a Heritage Society presentation, and so much more. Admission is completely free.

Starting at 10 p.m., there will be a 15-minute firework display to finish off the day at the Petawawa Golf Club. The fireworks display is weather dependent. Should the weather not agree, the show will be postponed until February 2019 for their Winter Family Festival.

Our Nation’s capital, Ottawa, has a few significant events planned throughout the day, but their most notable events are the day/evening concerts they have scheduled on Parliament Hill. The Noon show is set to begin at noon and will feature artists like Lights, Arkells, and more. The evening show starts at 7 p.m. and will feature the same artists with a few DJs thrown into the mix.

They have a spectacular fireworks display planned for the evening, starting at 10 p.m. The Pyro-Musical Fireworks features 1,300 aerial shells and 150 of the largest shells in Canada. According to the Government of Canada website, the best viewing spot for this show is the Canadian Museum of History, Major’s Hill Park and along the Ottawa River.

In Vancouver, Canada Place has a day of events planned to celebrate Canada. They promise to bring you music and entertainment, a citizen ceremony, Youth Zone, Picnic Plaza, and of course, a firework display to finish out the day. Also, Granville Island will have crafts to make, entertainment to see, music, food, and even a bike decorating station.

Marketspot will host their fifth annual Canada Day Block Party in Calgary, AB. Taking place at the Max Bell Centre from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. This is an all ages event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with activities running during that time. According to the event’s website, this spot will give you the best view of the fireworks display taking place at 11 p.m.

If you are looking to enjoy the fireworks with your family in Calgary, other great viewing spots are places like Riverfront Avenue and Nose Hill Park.
