Canadian Armed Forces’ Land Task Force in Poland completes its three-year mission under Operation REASSURANCE

The Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) Land Task Force (LTF) in Poland successfully completed its three-year mission, under Operation REASSURANCE, in the Eastern European country this week.

“Canada is a strong supporter of NATO and is committed to doing its part as a member of the Alliance. Over the last three years, the Land Task Force in Poland has demonstrated Canada’s commitment to security and stability in Central and Eastern Europe, and that commitment continues through our many activities under Operation REASSURANCE,” said LGen. Stephen Bowes, Commander Canadian Joint.

There have been a number of rotations of troops serving on LTF in Poland since May of 2014. Throughout the years, Canadian troops have participated in several exercises with Allies while deployed to Poland.

The last rotation of the LTF served in Poland for six months. It comprised of close to 200 soldiers from 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry out of Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, Alberta.

During their six month stay in Poland, the last LTF took part in Exercise ALLIED SPIRIT VI in Hohenfels, Germany; Exercise PLATINUM EAGLE 17-2 hosted by the Romanian Land Forces in the Babadag Training Area, Romania; Exercise SPRING STORM in Estonia from May 9 to 24, 2017; Exercise SABRE STRIKE from June 4 to 15, 2017, in Orzysz, Poland; and Exercise SABER GUARDIAN.

“The Land Task Force members are proud and honoured to have served in Poland. Their hard work has increased the Canadian Armed Forces’ ability to work alongside other NATO nations and enhanced the esprit-de-corps amongst the soldiers that make up this Alliance,” said Maj. Michael Brooks, Commander, Land Task Force Poland.

The troops will now redeploy to Canada while some of the equipment will be transferred to Latvia in support of the CAF led eFP BG.

Canada will continue to support NATO allies in Europe by leading the enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup (eFP BG), which was stood up in June 2017 at Camp Adazi, Latvia.

Canada is one of the four framework nations supporting NATO’s vision of peace and stability in Eastern and Central Europe.
