Sears Canada Operation Wish set for December 6

For the tenth year in a row, Sears Canada is hosting Operation Wish, a day for military families to get some Christmas shopping done at discounted rates. On Dec 6, families can shop in-store, online or from the Sears Canada Wish Book catalogue to receive a 15 per cent discount.

Purchases made online or from the catalogue must be made between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. EST to receive the discount.

Select stores located near bases are making the day a memorable shopping experience for families by opening a few hours early for exclusive shopping. Realizing that shopping with children isn’t always the easiest task; some stores are even hosting events for children like face painting and pancake breakfasts.

Operation Wish is typically held on the first Sunday in December after receiving feedback from military families who found it easier to shop on the weekend.

Operation Wish was initiated in 2006 when the CAF was in the middle of operations in Afghanistan. Wanting to help deployed soldiers send gifts home, Sears Canada shipped catalogues to Afghanistan, gave troops a 10 per cent discount and shipped presents to their loved ones free of charge.

Over the years the program has evolved and included hosting parties, banner signing and sending cards to troops.

For the third year, a percentage of sales from the Sears Canada Plush Bear will be donated to MFRC. Sears Canada makes a yearly donation of $10,000 to MFRCs across the country. Sears Canada has donated close to $200,000 over the years to support military families through the MFRC.

“At Sears we recognize the families of the Armed Forces face challenges that many other Canadians don’t face, in particular during the holidays. They face the challenge of being separated and of knowing they may move at any moment and we wanted a way to say thank you and this is a small way of doing that,” noted Alicia Richler Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications for Sears Canada.

Also, this year shoppers can also enjoy the Sears 12 days of giving from Dec. 1 to 12. Richler promises plenty of surprises and giveaways for the community.

“We are going to be doing something exciting in our communities every day. With every day, there’s stuff you know and some stuff you don’t know. Be watching…there’s more coming. It’s quite exciting,” said Richler.

Military members must have valid military ID for in-store purchases.

The coupon code for receiving 15 per cent off when shopping online or from the Sears Wish Book Catalogue is 941612521.
