2024 Top Baby Names Announced
If you are expecting a bundle of joy this year, choosing a baby name may be at the top of your to-do list. Here is a breakdown of the top baby names nationally and province by province.
For a fourth year in a row, Noah claimed the top spot for most popular baby boy name in Canada, while for a third year in a row, Olivia reigns as the most popular baby girl name of 2024.
The top baby name spots are determined each year by BabyCenter.ca.
“For girls, Olivia is no stranger to top title, she was unseated from first place in 2021, to be replaced by Amelia, which now sits at No. 2.
For boys, Noah and Liam have been neck and neck in the race, with Noah continuing his reign at number one, with Liam right behind at number two for the last three years in a row,” proclaims BabyCenter.
According to the go-to expert for all things baby, classic and traditional names are finding their way in the top ten spots for both Canadian boys and girls. These names include Henry, Jack and Violet.

Popular baby names can often vary slightly from province to province. Check out the breakdown of the top baby names in Canada’s different provinces.

Alberta
According to Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, Alberta’s top baby names for 2024 align greatly with those of Canada’s overall. The top boy name is Noah, while the top girl name is also Olivia.
However, the second and third spots vary from the national average. For boys, Noah is followed by Oliver and then Liam. While for girls, Olivia is followed by Amelia and then Charlotte.

British Columbia
Canada’s westernmost province varies significantly from the rest of the country when it comes to the top boy name. Coming in at number one in BC is Oliver, with Noah falling from previous years to number three.
For girls, Olivia follows suit with the rest of the nation. However, the second and third spots are claimed by Charlotte and Isla.
According to CBC.ca, the following are the top ten baby girl and baby boy names:

Manitoba
Just like Canada overall, for several years in a row, Olivia claims the top spot for baby girl names, with Noah claiming the top spot in Manitoba, kicking Liam out of its previous hold.
The rest of the baby girl name list, however, differs significantly from Canada overall, featuring names such as Nora, Ella and Ivy.
Boy names unique to the top baby names in Manitoba include Benjamin and Luke.
According to the Winnipeg Sun, the following are the top ten baby girl and baby boy names:

New Brunswick
Noah and Charlotte claimed the top spots for New Brunswick’s most popular baby names of 2024.
According to the province of New Brunswick, other popular baby names included Liam, Oliver, Henry, Jack, Olivia, Amelia, Elizabeth and Ellie.
Minister of Service New Brunswick took to congratulating new parents in a statement that revealed the top names.
“Congratulations to everyone who welcomed a new addition to their family in 2024. Our government is focused on the health, wellness and future of all New Brunswickers,” said Aaron Kennedy, who is also Local Government Minister.

Nova Scotia
Theodore claimed the top spot for the most popular boy baby name of 2024, knocking Henry out of its previous top spot. Charlotte claimed the top spot for the most popular girl’s name.
According to the Nova Scotia Registry of Vital Statistics, popular baby names remain consistent in the province. However, a few unique names are gaining popularity, such as Hazel and Owen.
According to the province, the following are the top baby names of 2024:

Ontario
For the fifteenth year in a row, Olivia reigns as the most popular girl name in Ontario. For boys, Noah claims the top spot.
At the end of each year, Ontario releases the popular baby names of the previous year. Therefore, unlike other provinces, Ontario’s top spots are for 2023.
Ontario welcomed some new baby names in 2023, such as Mila and Henry.
“Welcoming a new baby and choosing a name is one of life’s most meaningful milestones, and our government is dedicated to helping new parents focus on these special moments rather than paperwork,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement in a released statement. “With ServiceOntario’s 5-in-1 Newborn Bundle, we’ve made it easier for Ontario parents to register their newborns and apply for essential documents like birth certificates and Social Insurance Numbers—all from the comfort of their home.”
The top boy and girl names of 2023 in Ontario are as follows:

Prince Edward Island
Theodore and Charlotte reign supreme as the top baby names of 2024 in PEI.
Unique to this province, many names held a tie for certain spots. For example, the second spot for boys goes to both Nolan and Luke, while spot three goes to Henry, Owen, Thomas, and Liam.

Saskatchewan
Henry climbed up the charts to claim the top spot for the most popular boy name in 2024 in Saskatchewan, while Sophia also climbed the list to claim the most popular baby girl name.
According to data obtained from CBC, Saskatchewan’s top ten boy names welcomed a name that is unique to the province. Coming in at number ten is the name Muhammed, which is tied with Brooks. The top 10 girl names also feature unique names such as Harper and Sadie.
