Machine gun fire cascades across Canada’s north in our favourite photo of the week.
Under the September skies of Pond Inlet, Nunavut, Sailor 3rd Class Muna Fasail of Joint Task Force NUNAKPUT fires a C6 medium machine gun under the supervision of Cpl. Conner Nagy. Sgt. Alana Morin captured the image during the live-fire training part of Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT on Sept. 2, 2025.
Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT falls under the broader umbrella of Operation NANOOK, which is the Canadian Armed Forces’ signature northern operation.
Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT specifically focuses on increasing Canadian presence and surveillance along the Northwest Passage in co-operation with mission partners.
