Medallion Presentation and Dinner designed to honour military families

On March 9, 2019, the Wainwright Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) will be holding a Medallion Presentation and Dinner to honour military spouses for their support and service.

“One of the truths of military service is that families serve alongside the military member. When the member is posted, the family reroutes. When the member is deployed, the family carries on at home. Families learn to be resilient and adaptive, and this is what provides strength. It is this service that we wanted to honour at our Medallion Ceremony, and provide an opportunity for military members to recognize their families,” said Cheryl Whitten, Communication & Promotions Coordinator for the Wainwright MFRC.

The Medallions being awarded are the Home Front Medallions. They have a maple leaf that is surrounded by the words: Faith, Love, Duty for Family & Country. Whitten said the design “symbolizes the essence of military service for both the member and the family.”

Military Members have the opportunity to submit personal messages for their families that will be engraved on the back of the Medallions.

The evening will start with an intimate dinner, followed by the presentation of the Medallions, and the option for family photos. Wainwright MFRC has partnered with local business both for the event as well as for gifts to give the family members being honoured. Whitten said, “Our goal here at the Wainwright MFRC, and specifically with this event, is really to create opportunities for families to thrive in our community.”

According to Whitten, the local community is very supportive of military families.

“The community plays a large role in various forms that allow us to develop connection and integration, so much so that we’re also celebrating key community partners with our Spirit of Military Family award ceremony in recognition of this contribution,” Whitten said.
