Three months left before Canada Army Run race day

On September 23, 2018, the 11th edition of the Canada Army Run will commence, leaving potential participants with three short months to register for the race. The unique military-themed event will be held in the National Capital Region.

A 5K, 10K, and half-marathon are all featured in this year’s race. There are also two challenges available for those participants looking to push themselves further. The Ortona Challenge combines both five and 10K events while honouring the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Ortona. As for the Commander’s Challenge, participants with complete both the 5K and half-marathon events.

Civilians, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel, military family members and runners of all ages and abilities are welcomed to participate and can run, walk, or roll together, showing their pride as Canadians and runners.

However, if someone isn’t into running and would like to remain a spectator or for younger children, other activities throughout the day including the Juno Challenge Kids Obstacle Course, Running Room Sports Expo, Military equipment, and historical displays. There’s also a chance to meet and interact with members of the CAF and guest speakers, and live performances are also planned throughout the day. There’s sure to be something for every member of your family to enjoy.

This summer, Canada Army Run’s longest serving race director, Major Gus Garant will be leaving to pursue other endeavors.

“I am extremely proud to have served as Canada Army Run Race Director for the past four years and the financial support we have provided to Soldier On and Support Our Troops. This is no ordinary race, and this was no ordinary job,” said Maj. Garant in a press release issued June 21.

Taking over for Maj. Garant, Major David Tischhauser looks forward to expanding on the efforts put forth by Maj. Garant and his team.

“It is a tremendous honor. This event is close to my heart, my family and I have participated in and volunteered for this amazing run from its early inception. It is truly a special event that captures the spirit of our Canadian Army soldiers and does so much for Soldier On and Support Our Troops,” said Maj. Tischhauser in a press release. “I look forward to continuing the great work of my predecessor Major Gus Garant and those before him. I am Strong, Proud and Ready to be your next Canada Army Run Race Director.”

Since the race was created in 2008, the Canada Army Run has been able to raise more than $2.6 million in support of Soldier On and Support Our Troops Fund. Both programs assist ill and injured soldiers and military families in need.
