Community raises money for family whose soldier lost his life in car accident

A former Combat Engineer with 2 Combat Engineer Regiment, Travis Wright, tragically lost his life on Nov. 28 in a motor vehicle collision in North Bay.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash left the scene on foot but was later located by members of the North Bay Police Service. The man has been arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to comply with a probation order and assault with intent to resist arrest.

As a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Wright was deployed to Afghanistan in the summer of 2010. He was had currently transitioned out of the Army.

He is survived by his wife and two children. A GoFundMe page was setup by friends this week to help raise money in support of the family.

In just a day, thanks to the generous support military community members and friends, the goal of $13,000 has almost been reached.

“I served alongside Travis, and knew him to be an awesome soldier, an amazing friend to so many, and a great human being,” stated the GoFundMe Page, setup by a former colleague of Wright.
