Welcome to the Community: Military Family Days in Petawawa and Trenton

The posting season is over and schools are now back in session. If you’ve happened to move to a new community this year, you still may not be in sync with your surroundings that well. That’s why MFRCs across the country are holding family days so newer community members can connect with other military families and resources.

“Family Days are an important part of a family’s integration into the community.  It is a great way to celebrate the families as well as highlight the professionalism and dedication of the military community,” said Petawawa MFRC Executive Director Claudia Beswick.

Family day’s taking place this week include Garrison Family Day at CFB Petawawa on Sept. 17. Families can enjoy a wide range of activities including unit displays, kiddie commando, inflatables, paint me Petawawa 5k colour run/walk, stage family entertainment, face painting and 2 CMBG Pipes and Drums, Craz-E-Crew Stunt Team and more.

“This opportunity provides the civilian community a chance to learn a little more about us and benefits everyone when connecting our families to local resources and supports.

“Recognizing families is extremely important; showcasing all the programs and services available to them at Family Day goes a long way in helping them embrace their community, meet new people and enjoy some family fun,” added Beswick.

Also this weekend is the Military Family Day at CFB Trenton. Families will gather at the Trenton MFRC to enjoy activities such as a midway, inflatables, petting zoo, free BBQ.

“Our Family Day is a day to welcome new and returning military families, showcase what our community has to offer and to spend a fun day with friends and family,” said Devon Taylor Communication and Development Coordinator at the Trenton MFRC.

Garrison Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dundonald Hall.

Military Family Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
