Police seek owner of two First World War medals

Two First World War medals were recently discovered by Medicine Hat, AB police. However, since the discovery in Dec. 2016, the police have been unable to locate the owners or any known relatives and are now asking the public’s help in returning the medals to their rightful owners.

The medals were found after two individuals were arrested in December for stealing items from a donation baskets at a charity’s office in Medicine Hat. Police found a plastic bag, while carrying out a related search, which had old foreign coins and two First World War medals.

“When the individuals were questioned regarding where they found the medals, both parties gave conflicting stories.  The Medicine Hat Police Service would like to return the medals to their rightful owner and are requesting assistance from the public to do so,” stated a Medicine Hat Police Service news release.

Upon further investigation, it appears that they were awarded to “L.B. Middleton,” who served in the British Navy during the war. But police have been unable to locate “L.B. Middleton.”

Anyone with information regarding the identity of L.B. Middleton or about the medals is requested to contact Medicine Hat Police by emailing Cst. Dave Allen at [email protected].
