Petition regarding Military Families being included in next defence policy reaches House floor

Several months in the making, Petition e-565 finally made its appearance before the House of Commons on April 4.

The petition was addressed to the Minister of National Defence, Harjit Sajjan, and demands that military families be included in the next defence policy review “as an integral and essential part of the mission of the CAF.”

The petition also asks for Military Family Resource Centres (MFRC) to be recognized as the official service provider for military families.

The petition was launched by Valcartier MFRC Executive Director Marie-Claude Michaud in September of 2016. The petition was signed by more than one thousand Canadians from across the country.

The petition was sponsored and presented by Conservative MP Joel Godin from Portneuf-Jacques-Cartier.

“The resource centres of families in Canada are doing an excellent job, and we want them to be recognized by the ministry in order to give them the support they need,” said Godin in a Facebook statement.

Godin then also met with Michaud and other members of the Valcartier MFRC.
