Petawawa community welcomed its new CANEX Supermart

The Petawawa community welcomed its new CANEX Supermart, a flagship store for future CANEX stores across the country, in a grand opening ceremony on the weekend of April 28-30.

“It’s been a long time coming. I remember in 1992, my first time here, hearing about a new CANEX. Well here we are almost 30 years later and it’s finally here so this is great not only for the Garrison but for the community,” said Col. Mark Misener, Commander 4th Canadian Division Support Group. based in Petawawa.

Built in the epicentre of the Petawawa community, the new CANEX store houses both CANEX retail and grocery facilities and a full-service Canada Post outlet.

Adjacent to the new store, the Petawawa community can also find a SISIP Financial Office, Bank of Montreal (BMO), Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), the CANEX Barber Shop, Chiropractor Dennis Mahoney, Subway and Service Ontario.

“It’s very convenient for busy families it’s great to just come buy and get what you need. It’s a very different look and feel than the last CANEX. So, you get a very personalised experience here,” noted Col. Misener.

After the demolition of the historic General Panet High School, work began on this 45,000 square foot CANEX in 2014.

Dignitaries gathered on Friday, April 28 for the ribbon cutting ceremony of this $14 million project.

Festivities to celebrate the new CANEX store carried throughout the weekend with three days of prizes, giveaways, free food and fun for the whole family.
