New Starbucks alliance to help veterans transition from military career

The national fundraising organization True Patriot Love announced yesterday a new partnership with coffee giant Starbucks, to facilitate and render more accessible mentoring programs to veterans transitioning from a military career.

A recent survey has indeed confirmed the main challenges veterans face when transitioning to the next phase of their career are in terms or presenting their skills to uninformed corporate Canada. With this new initiative, named Coffee with a Vet, the organization hopes to connect 500 veterans with mentors – mainly business leaders, every year.

True Patriot Love’s CEO, Ms. Bronwen Evans, explains: “Starbucks is known to be a great networking place. By facilitating meetings, workshops, and conferences within their facilities, we hope to help veterans across Canada to get the tools they need to better transition into a successful post-military career.”

The organization will be pairing its mentoring effort with Treble Victor, an organization made up of veterans who have already successfully transitioned from their own military career. Their networking groups and sources of mentor should be put to work in making this initiative a success.

Starbucks is proud to be a part of ensuring the success of Canada’s veterans by offering them a place to gather and grow. The initiative goes in line of what is already successfully implemented in the United States. The brand is excited to expand this success story to Canadian vets.

“For Veterans, entering the civilian workforce for the first time can be a significantly challenging transition, and many require support to translate military skills into civilian jobs. Through this program, Starbucks will provide much-needed meeting places for networking and mentoring meetings, along with larger scale events, all aimed at leading to employment and support services. Everyone deserves a fair shot at success and Starbucks is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for Canadian Veterans across the country,” explained Rossann Williams, president of Starbucks Canada.

True Patriot Love and Starbucks are now working on a plan to help promote the initiative on the various platforms that are social medias, the inter-web and more generally within the Starbucks stores across the country.

For True Patriot Love, the alliance is a step in a good direction to lay the foundation of a much needed national mentoring program for veterans. The organization is hoping to use the knowledge acquired from its recent expeditions to the Himalayas, the magnetic North Pole, and Antarctica, pairing veterans with business leaders, to implement a more global strategy.
