Drug charges laid against military member at CFB Shilo

Drug related charges have been laid against a military member at CFB Shilo by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Services. The alleged offences relate to an investigation that resulted in the seizure of one once of cocaine packing materials, production equipment and pepper spray from the residence of the accused on Jan. 15, 2016.

“These charges reflect the effectiveness of ongoing efforts by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service’s National Drug Enforcement Team to eradicate drug use within the Canadian Armed Forces,” said LCol. Francis Bolduc, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.

MCpl. Brent McCarthy of 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry faces:

One count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, punishable under section 130 of the National Defence Act; and

One count of Possession of a Prohibited weapon: to wit Pepper Spray, under section 91(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable under section 130 of the National Defence Act.
