2016 Army Run Opens for Registration

Registration for the race dubbed as “no ordinary race” opened for running enthusiasts on Feb. 16. Participants can now sign up online to take part in the 2016 Canada Army Run that will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016.

Held annually in the Ottawa and Gatineau area, running enthusiasts of all abilities have the choice to take part in either the 5K or half marathon.

This year it is expected that the race will usher in 25,000 participants from across the country and the world as “they run, walk, and roll in this truly unique event.”

“Canada Army Run is distinct from all other running events in Canada. Each year, I look forward to welcoming participants to this truly inspiring event, where our men and women in uniform run, walk, and roll side-by-side with those who continuously show their support for the Canadian Armed Forces. I invite everyone to join us at this year’s Canada Army Run,” said Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander, Canadian Army

The run is truly like no other, bringing together members of the CAF, their families and civilians under the banner of esperit de corps and pride for their country. Since 2008, about 138,000 participants have taken part in Canada Army Run.

The Canada Army Run also raises money for both Soldier On and Military Family Services, two programs that provide support to injured soldiers and military families. Since 2008, the Canada Army Run has raised more than $1.6 million for the two organizations.

In recognition of their support for these two charities, the Canada Army Run received the Community Spirit Award at the 2015 Ottawa Tourism Awards. The award recognizes a business or organization that organized or participated in a fundraising event for a regional not-for-profit.

The 2016 Canada Army Run is presented by BMO Bank of Montreal.

“BMO is delighted to once again present the Canada Army Run. We are all enormously proud of our longstanding role supporting members of the military, their families, and our veterans. They truly deserve the honour and respect that Canadians provide them every day. Come join us in 2016 to celebrate and cheer on our heroes,” said Sandra Henderson, Senior Vice-President, Eastern Ontario Division, BMO Bank of Montreal.
