Skyhawks Recruiting for 2023 Season
Applications are currently being accepted for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) highly-skilled demonstration parachute team that dazzles crowds worldwide.
The Skyhawks are currently accepting applications to expand their ranks until Nov. 30, 2022.
“Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team (CAFPT), the Skyhawks, perform demonstration parachute jumps throughout Canada and internationally in front of more than two million people annually. As CAF ambassadors, team members perform a vital outreach role while connecting with audiences,” stated CANFORGEN 140/22, which announced the annual augmentation to the Skyhawks 2023 Team.
The team consists of both Regular Force members and Reserve Force members of all elements, trades, and classifications.
Diverse and Inclusive Team
According to the CANFORGEN, the Skyhawks are looking to include members from a diverse portfolio.
“Team selection places great emphasis on achieving a team composition that is diverse and inclusive representation of the CAF,” read the CANFORGEN.
Potential members must be recommended by their commanding officers, and since Skyhawks serve as CAF ambassadors, the standard is high.
“Each applicant must be recommended by their CO, who must be satisfied that the member’s character and personal conduct are of the standard required to be an outstanding representative of the CAF.”
Some of the specific requirements for applicants are as follows, according to the CAF:
- Members must be trade qualified
- Members must be qualified MIL Freefall PARA AIDA or hold a certificate of proficiency awarded by the CSPA or USPA
- Recommended that they have a minimum of 50 freefall jumps
The parachutist fitness test should be completed and consists of the following:
- Seven chin ups
- 31 consecutive sit-ups
- 1.6 km run in 7 min 30 sec
This test will be completed at the arrival of the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre (CAAWC).
The refresher standard only applies if the member is a military parachutist. This test is a base requirement.
After the chain of command approves, the unit must send a resume of their experience, a copy of their log book, a copy of their civilian license, a copy of their successful PT test result, and a letter of recommendation. All of this must be submitted by Nov. 30 through the Skyhawks email.
After being advised that a member’s application is successful, they will stay at CAAWC in Trenton for the ground training period and the main training camp in the spring. Those members who are ultimately selected to be a Skyhawk for the 2023 season will remain with the team until the season ends around Oct. 3, 2023. Members should make sure they have a valid passport until June 2024.
