New Benefit Card

Nov 1st marks a new era for submitting prescription drug receipts.

As of Monday, gone is the practice of collecting drug receipts and sending them into the medical plan provider, Sun Life Financial. The Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) has enhanced their health care coverage by introducing the new PSHCP benefit card.

“I want to encourage all members of the Public Service Health Care Plan across the country to sign up for the new benefit card,” says Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board. “By allowing the processing of claims electronically, this new card will streamline the process and improve services for members. The government will also benefit from saving millions of dollars per year over the long term.”

The new card means that military families, who are included in the public service employee plan, will now only pay the balance owing on their prescription drugs and some medical supplies at the time of purchase.

Sun Life sent out packages this past summer to encourage people to register for the new card. People who haven’t received their new card can go to the Sun Life web site to register for the card or call 1-877-283-1411 or if you live in the National Capital Region call 613-560-7846. For people who have never submitted a claim they need to call 1-888-757-7427 or 613-247-5100 in the National Capital Region.

Members can also go the website to find out when they can submit their next claim for glasses, change their address, confirm receipt of their claim and if it’s been processed, sign up for direct deposit for quicker claim reimbursements, and be notified by e-mail that a claim has been processed.

The new benefit card will be accepted at pharmacies in Canada on Monday.
