The Conservative Candidate for the riding of Pickering-Scarborough East, Corneliu Chisu’s career in the military is an embodiment of service awards and deployments around the world.
Chisu served for 24 years as a Royal Military Engineer beginning his career in the Armed Forces as a cadet. His career took him on peacekeeping operations in the Balkans in 2004 and a deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2007. He retired from the Regular Forces as a Major in 2009.
Chisu’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. He has been the recipient of many service medals including the Canadian Forces Decoration First Clasp, the NATO, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the General Campaign Star Afghanistan Medal.
To add to his list of accomplishments, Chisu is also the only sitting member of Parliament in the last legislature who was a veteran of the Afghanistan War.
After his impressive career in the military, Chisu took his engineering skills to the private sector as a project manager in an engineering firm called Genivar, now known as WSB.
Chisu was inspired to run for office by “the desire to continue to serve my country applying my engineering, military and international trade skills.”
Chisu believes that only Prime Minister Harper and his government can combat the threats Canada faces today.
“Canadians know that they can trust our Conservative Party to keep the economy strong and keep our country safe. Amid global economic turmoil, this choice has real consequences. Only Prime Minister Stephen Harper has shown leadership in the fight against terrorism at home and abroad while the Liberals and the NDP have been clear that they would end the fight against ISIS… Only Prime Minister Stephen Harper believes that more must be done to stop the flow of foreign terrorist fighters who pose a direct threat to Canada, and has a clear plan to protect Canadians from violent jihadists who would enter our country,” said Chisu.
Chisu is a longtime resident of Scarborough East where he lives with his wife and daughter.
