Western troops relieve 2nd Canadian Division troops in the Ukraine

Approximately 200 Canadian Army soldiers from 3rd Canadian Division, based in Western Canada, have deployed to Ukraine to relieve their counterparts involved in Operation UNIFIER.

For the past few months, soldiers from 2nd Canadian Division, based out of Quebec, have been stationed in Ukraine as part of the Government of Canada’s ongoing commitment to support Ukrainian forces to ensure the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Together with our Allies under Operation UNIFIER, Canada proudly supports the people of Ukraine. I welcome the return of our soldiers to Valcartier, and wish the best to those deploying from Edmonton and Shilo in continued support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. I am pleased to witness Canada’s ongoing commitment to this important training mission,” stated Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan in a press release.

Operation UNIFIER enables the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to train Ukrainian Armed Forces in tactics of surviving and thriving on the battlefield. Canadian trainers are teaching basic soldier and medical skills and other capacity building skills including flight safety, policing techniques and language training.
