Legendary Canadian Mike Myers named official ambassador for 2017 Invictus Games

The legendary Canadian comedian, actor, director and author Mike Myers has been chosen as an Official Ambassador to the Invictus Games Toronto 2017.

In his role, Myers will be delivering an inspiring tribute to the host nation during the Opening Ceremony. He will also be participating in the official Games Opening press conference on Sept. 23.

“I am thrilled to be able to participate in an active role at the Invictus Games, taking place in the city where I grew up. The military background of my parents, who both served in Britain, makes this a cause that is near and dear to my heart. I am so honoured to be part of a Games where the focus is on supporting active service members and veterans who have given so much to their countries,” said Mike Myers.

A native of Scarborough, ON, Myers has a personal connection to the military: his parents Alice and Eric Myers served in the Royal Air Force and British Army, respectively.

At the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, Myers made an appearance and spoke about raising awareness and respect for service members, their families, and caregivers.

“I can’t think of a bigger champion of Canada, the City of Toronto and our military than Mike Myers. He’s a great talent and passionate about caring for our ill, injured and wounded warriors. He’s going to help us shine a bright spotlight on all the heroes and their families at the Invictus Games,” said Michael Burns, CEO, Invictus Games Toronto 2017.

The Official Ambassador program is a long-standing tradition of the Invictus Games. Leaders in various fields, such as entertainment, science, business, and social media, to show support for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans.
