20 Minute Beef, Garlic & Broccoli Lo Mein

If you are looking for a simple meal filled with flavour, this dish is for you. Not only is it delicious, but it only takes 20 minutes to prepare. Quick and yummy. Bon Appétit! If you are not a fan of beef you can substitute shrimp, chicken – or tofu for vegetarian.

Ingredients

8 ounces lo mein noodles or spaghetti noodles
3 cups broccoli florets
1 Tbsp. olive oil
8-ounce flank steak, sliced against the grain* (SEE NOTE)
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 medium carrot, shredded or 1 red pepper sliced
¼ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
2 tsp. sesame oil
¼ tsp. ground ginger
¼ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
¼ tsp. pepper

Instructions

Step 1: In a large pot, boil water.
Step 2: Once boiled, add the noodles and cook according to package directions.
Step 3: Add the broccoli during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Let them cook until tender. Drain the noodles and broccoli.
Step 4: While the pasta is cooking, add olive oil to a medium sized skillet. Step 5: Cook your meat of choice until it is no longer pink. Add garlic and carrots or red pepper and cook for one minute more.
Step 6: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper, and pepper.
Step 7: Add the noodles to the skillet, pour the sauce on top, and toss until mixed.

Notes

Note: *You can substitute chicken, shrimp or tofu for the flank steak.
