Life After The Uniform

A Week That Hit The Spot!

Isn’t it funny how what you often need the most falls right in your lap? This past week, all of the readings from “Simple Abundance” could not have come at a better time for me.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed in the domestic sphere, it was good to be reminded on June 1st of the story of Hestia. Life is busy in June and things were beginning to slip, and although I can’t say that housework is like meditation, it is an excuse to do something that’s reasonably quiet, and very satisfying. I enjoyed a full day at home to get caught up and now things seem more balanced again. I do need to do a better job of asking for help (June 3rd) – not my strength to be sure. I wish I could say that I just don’t want to bother anyone, or that I have things so together that I don’t need any help, but truth be told, I’m a bit of a control-freak at times and at least I know things will be done “right” if I do them. And thus, I find myself overwhelmed once again. In the weeks to come, it’s something I’ll work on for sure!

My latest conundrum is that my closet is a mess. As a result, I’ve got a pile of things on the floor near my closet that I can’t actually put away because there’s no room. It looks like laundry day every day in my bedroom (June 5th). I hate it! I like everything else about the bedroom except this constant pile of clothes/purses/boots. I need to take the time to fix it – I think I have some time tomorrow morning after the kids leave for school. Although Sarah is a fan of the duvet, I’m a quilt girl! My mother-in-law made us a huge one and there’s nothing warmer in the winter. But I guess the idea is to find what you love for this important space. And what I’d love is to get that pile off the floor!

I really enjoyed the piece on June 6th about creating a spa at home. What a fantastic idea, and one that never, ever, ever would have occurred to me on my own! Why not create that kind of atmosphere at home? It’s a thousand times cheaper than actually going to a spa (and I don’t think there’s much in the way of spas where I live anyhow)! And in this house, I actually have an ensuite bathroom … so, I can create my spa and not have to share space with the million plastic tub toys my youngest daughter refuses to part with. I’m so on my way to Shoppers Drug Mart …
