Luckily, with Halloween just days away, streaming services across the board are offering plenty of movies and TV shows to get into the Halloween spirit and get a good scare. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark | Netflix

This 2019 occult film is based on a children’s book of the same name. The story follows a trio of friends who find a sinister book of stories on Halloween 1968. The discovery slowly leads to the unravelling of their lives.

Rocky Horror Picture Show | Disney+

It wouldn’t be Halloween without this cult classic musical comedy horror is on Disney+ for viewers to enjoy this Halloween. Filmed in 1979, the film is about a couple (played by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon) who discover an eerie mansion after being stranded by a flat tire. As the story unfolds, the couple is introduced to a cast of creepy and unsettling characters at the mansion. This is Tim Curry at his best and features the singer Meatloaf. 

American Horror Story | Disney+

For eleven seasons, American Horror Story has consistently delivered all kinds of horror stories to its audiences. Each season is a miniseries with its own theme and conclusion. For example, one season takes place in a haunted mansion, one in an asylum, one centres around a coven of witches, while another follows a struggling freak show.

The Conjuring Universe

A horror hit franchise, the conjuring is based on the real-life cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators. The series has eight films and a number of short films, and potential sequels in the making. Its stories centre around dolls, haunted mansions, and possessed individuals, with each one as chilling as the last.

The Ring is another cult classic horror flick based on a Japanese horror film. The story revolves around a bizarre videotape that causes its viewers to be inexplicably haunted after its viewing.

Evil Dead | Netflix

Another horror genre favorite, Evil Dead, is a film franchise with four movies and a television show. The franchise focuses on the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text that uproots the lives of a group of individuals in Tennessee. 

The Blair Witch Project | Netflix

As it is the season of ghouls, ghosts, and witches, we can’t forget the supernatural horror movie The Blair Witch Project. This fictional story revolves around three student filmmakers who hike into the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland, in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The three disappear, but their equipment and footage are discovered a year later. The “recovered footage” is the film the viewer sees.
