Invictus Games to Return to Canada

The Invictus Games, the internationally renowned event for ill and injured soldiers, will be returning to Canada in 2025 for the event’s first-ever hybrid winter games.

This week, Prince Harry, founding patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, announced that the bid for the Invictus Games 2025 had been awarded to Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia.

“With recovery and rehabilitation of the international service community at its heart, I’m proud to say the Invictus Games has cemented itself as the premier place for world-class teams to come together in world-class venues. As Invictus continues to adapt and evolve, I’m thrilled to announce that the Invictus Games Foundation has selected Canada to host the first-ever hybrid winter games in 2025,” stated the Duke of Sussex during his announcement.

The 2025 Games

The Invictus Games 2025 will feature new sports, including Alpine Skiing, Skeleton, Wheelchair Curling, and Nordic Skiing.

The more than 500 competitors that will compete in the games will also be able to participate in the core Invictus Games sports, including indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair basketball.

“These games will act as a catalyst for recovery and to explore new opportunities through sports and adventure alongside the amazing experience of being in the mountains and the snow, some of us, for the first time,” continued Prince Harry.

The games will be hosted by the True Patriot Love Foundation, the Government of Canada, and the First Nations in Vancouver and Whistler.

Message from the Prime Minister

The announcement of the Invictus Games returning to Canada created a buzz across the country this week, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcoming the news.

“I’m so excited that Canada will be hosting the 2025 Invictus Games. In partnership with the True Patriot Love Foundation, we look forward to hosting competitors to beautiful British Columbia, where they will compete in the first-ever winter Invictus Games.

“I know Canadians are looking forward to hosting your talent once again and being part of this important movement. We can’t wait to see you all in 2025,” said Trudeau in a statement.
