Additional General Officer and Flag Officer appointments

Lieutenant-General W.D. Eyre, Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, announced more General Officer and Flag Officer appointments.

In a recent CANFORGEN dated May 13, Eyre announced, “Following my previous announcement, it is my privilege to announce additional General Officer and Flag Officer promotions and appointments for 2021. I wish to offer my deepest appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our retiring officers and their families, and I offer my congratulations and sincerest best wishes to those taking on new appointments and responsibilities.”

In Eyre’s first announcement in March, it noted Brigadier-General (BGen) S. Bouchard would retire from service, which will result in Commodore M.T.J. Kurtz’s appointment as Commandant Royal Military College, in Kingston, replacing BGen S. Bouchard.

The following promotions, retirements, and appointments were also announced in the recent CANFORGEN

Commodore A.J. Clarke will retire from service resulting in the following promotion and appointment:

Captain (Navy) D.E. Mazur will be promoted Commodore Acting while so employed and appointed Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific, in Esquimalt, replacing Commodore A.I. Topshee.

The following promotions and appointments result from new and continuing service requirements

Major-General (MGen) M.A.J. Carignan was promoted Lieutenant-General (LGen) and appointed to a new position as Chief Professional Conduct and Culture in Ottawa.

MGen S.J.R. Whelan will be promoted LGen and appointed Commander Military Personnel Command and Chief of Military Personnel, in Ottawa, resulting in the following promotion and appointment:

BGen M.H.L. Bourgon was promoted MGen and appointed Deputy Commander Military Personnel Command and Assistant Chief Military Personnel in Ottawa, replacing MGen S.J.R. Whelan.

BGen M.I.N. Tremblay will be promoted MGen and appointed to a new position as Chief Materiel Program in Ottawa, resulting in the following promotion and appointment:

Colonel M.W.J. Rodgers will be promoted to BGen and appointed Director General Aerospace Equipment Program Management, in Ottawa, replacing BGen M.I.N. Tremblay.

The following general officers will retire in 2021

    • LGen C.J. Coates
    • Commodore A.J. Clarke
