Modification Made to Basic Military Qualification Land and Developmental Period 2

On May 18, it was announced in CANFORGEN 072/21 that modifications were made to the Basic Military Qualification, land (BMQ-L), and Developmental Period 2 (DP2) Army Non-Commissioned Member (NCM) leadership training requirements.

The requirement for Canadian Army (CA) NCM MOSIDS to attend BMQ-L was removed on May 21. As a result, after completing BMQ, only Crewman (CRMN) 00005, Gunner 00368, and Combat Engineer (CBT ENGR) 00339 will attend BMQ-l before moving on to their respective DP1 training.

Previous CANFORGEN

A previous CANFORGEN stated that CA NCM MOSIDS must take the Army Junior Leaders Course (AJLC) as a requirement, but that was also removed on May 21. In addition, only CRMN 00005, Gunner 00368, and CBT ENGR 00339 will continue to AJLC after they finish their Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) module 3.

BMQ-l is no longer a prerequisite for anyone except CRMN 00005, gunner 00368, and CBT ENGR 00339 to attend DP2 training as this came into effect on May 21. Despite this, training will continue for students on BMQ-L until their course is done.

The CAFORGEN also mentioned that now only CRMN 00005, gunner 00368, and CBT ENGR 00339 will continue to AJLC in order to achieve DP2. Just like BMQ-L, students who are already on AJLC will keep with their training until their course is complete.

Specific Training Deficit Identified

“A specific training deficit identified, CA managed NCM MOSIDS are authorized to consider adjustments to DP1 and DP2 training in co-ordination with their Corps and the army individual training authority.

“Mentorship at the unit level, pre-deployment training, and theater mission-specific training will be leveraged to deliver specific, focused, and relevant training to applicable NCMs at a time when those skills are necessary for an upcoming assigned task,” the CANFORGEN stated.

It also noted, “Non CA managed NCM MOSIDS who wish to consider adjustments to their DP1 and DP2 training must solicit approval through their respective training authority.”

For the purposes of appointment to Master Corporal (MCpl) and beyond, retroactive promotions for those who have completed PLQ modules 1 through 3 will not be entertained.

NCMs, less Infantry 00010, CRMN 00005, Gunner 00368, and CBT ENGR 00339, who have completed PLQ modules 1 through 3, will be considered eligible for appointment to MCpl in accordance with additional MOSID training requirements and promotion boards as of May 21, 2021.

BMQ-L will no longer be a qualification requirement for any MOSID

No later than September 1, 2021, the armoured, artillery, and Combat Engineers Corps, in co-ordination the army individual training authority will incorporate the necessary elements of BMQ-L into their respective DP1 training, and BMQ-L will no longer be a qualification requirement for any MOSID.

According to the CANFORGEN, “Completion of AJLC will remain a mandatory prerequisite for appointment to MCpl for CRMN 00005, Gunner 00368, and CBT ENGR 00339 until alternate DP2 leadership training is developed.”

Infantry 00010 DP1 and DP2 qualification requirements remain extant.
