Sexual misconduct charges laid against two CAF Members

The Canadian Armed Forces’ commitment to crack down on sexual misconduct in the Forces is evident through charges being laid against CAF members recently. Just this week the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service laid charges against Sgt. Kevin MacIntyre of the Military Police Unit at Canadian Forces Base Halifax and Master Seaman Daniel Cooper of Naval Fleet School (Atlantic) at Canadian Forces Base Halifax.

“The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigates all allegations of sexual assault in a thorough and impartial manner to help ensure a respectful, healthy professional environment for all members. These charges reflect our ongoing commitment to support victims and defend against sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces,” said LCol. Francis Bolduc, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.

MacIntrye faces one count of Sexual Assault under section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable under section 130 of the National Defence Act, in relation to an alleged incident that took place in Glasgow, Scotland in September of 2015. The alleged victims also a member of the CAF.

“As members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the policing community, we hold Military Police to a very high standard of professional and personal conduct, in Canada or abroad, on or off military duty. This charge reflects the ongoing commitment of the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service to fully investigate all sexual assault cases, no matter the accused, to support victims and defend against sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces,” stated Bolduc.

Two charges were laid against Master Seamen Cooper and relate to an alleged sexual assault that took place while the accused was deployed on the HMCS Athabaskan in Nov. 2015. The alleged victim is also a member of the CAF.

Cooper faces one count of Sexual Assault, under section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable under section 130 of the National Defence Act; and one count of Abuse of Subordinates, punishable under section 95 of the National Defence Act.
