Life After The Uniform

Flooding Reminds Us of the Importance of Home

I haven’t posted for a couple of weeks now, the reason being that the end-of-school craziness has caught up with me and my family. I keep reminding myself that I just need to make it to June 29th … probably not the best time management sytem. With provincial exams, year-end parties, and leaving parties every spare moment seems to be accounted for. This makes following the Simple Abundance plan a bit more challenging, and more of a necessity! I don’t want a life where I rush around like a chicken with my head cut off!

I could very much relate to June 11th and the issue of papers. I can’t be the only one who finds managing paper to be a never-ending challenge! Bills, receipts, school documents, lists, meeting minutes … it just never ends! The problem is that I haven’t had any time to actually act on this one … but I’ve put a post-it note on the page to return to later, once school is over and the days are a bit more leisurely. And I loved the piece on June 13th about the fancy pantry. I love to entertain, and it’s always so nice to have some unusual luxury item on offer. I definitely want to find that book in the library!
I have to be careful about the fragrance issue though. Artificial fragrance and I do not mix. I like pure essential oils, and good kitchen smells but anything “Febreezy” gives me a headache. In fact, I only clean with baking soda, vinegar and water! I like that there are a number of natural ideas for good scents – I’ve always loved cinnamon in the winter and lemon in the summer. And if it would just stop raining here in Southern Alberta, maybe I could open the windows for awhile!

Speaking of which, the one thing that all of the flooding down here has shown me is that “home” is critically important. On the news, when they interview the folks who have lost their homes, you can see how devastating that is. I think our homes are such a huge part of our identities, and it’s so worthwhile to put some effort into it. If anything, all of this destruction has spurred me on this Simple Abundance path!

Until next week …
